Developing countries team up to share knowledge against AIDS(Text added in 2007-11-06)
The Technological Network on HIV/AIDS is a joint initiative amongst Argentina, Brazil, China, Cuba, Nigeria, Russia, Ukraine and Thailand to promote technology transfer to implement effective national and international responses to AIDS epidemic.
The main objectives of the Technological Network on HIV/AIDS include to support the production of antiretroviral drugs with a view to making the drugs accessible for all, price reductions and the rational and effective use of generic medicines; and the development and production HIV tests, CD4 cell count tests, viral load tests and genotyping.
The Technological Network on HIV/AIDS main scope of activities includes monitoring of the International Agreements on Intellectual Property such as the World Trade Organization Agreement on Trade Related Aspects of Intellectual Property Rights (TRIPS), that rules the processes involved in managing intellectual Property Rights (IPR), aiming to encourage technical innovation as well as the transfer and dissemination of technology, without jeopardizing the protection and promotion of public health.
